THE DIRECTOR FOR FOOD AND DRUGS AUTHORITY IN THE UPPER WEST REGION CAUTIONS THE YOUTH ON TAKEN OF TRAMADOL
The regional
director for Food and Drugs Authority in the upper west region Mr. George
Akologo cautions the youth in the region and municipality especially the second
cycle and primary school students to stay away from narcotic drugs like
tramadol.
Speaking
with progress news, he express that, in recent days, there has been a cry in
the region and WA municipality concerning the consuming of tramadol by the
youth especially by second cycle and primary school students.
Moreover,
one big problem is that many of these students mistakenly view the drug as
relatively harmless given the fact that it is a prescribe drug even though
these youth and students are obtaining these drugs illegally.
He continued
that even though tramadol is a prescribe drug moderate to relieve severe pain,
but taken in large amount is harmful to health of the youth who are the future
leaders of this county.
According to
some youth who express their experiences on taken these drugs for some years
speaking with progress news stated that they use the drugs to boost their
working ability and also to enhance their ability in bed.
According to
Mr. George Akologo,he emphasis that, this drug could only be sold in license
pharmacies and only to people above 18 years of age with doctor’s prescription.
He indicated to progress news that there is a
regional committee, which has put in place working on the consuming and selling
of narcotic drugs like tramadol in the region and the WA municipality. He
reveal to progress news that they have been able to arrest one of the suppliers
of the drugs in the region who is currently in the police custody.
