Every 4 years, Ghanaians have to endure the superfluous noise and tensions that characterize the campaign period. It is all to elect the next leader to spearhead the affairs of the country.
Prof. Lumumba said _"if you want to be rich fast, then join African politics"_. This denotes that politics has become a conduit for making "illegal" money in many African countries if not all. It is so because people who served this nation with clean heart often go on retirement with just a meagre end of service benefit unlike the politicians who make a lot of money within the shortest possible time. I look forward to a time that this country will have a generation of selfless politicians and civil servants whose interest would be to reduce unemployment, inequality and provide socioeconomic transformation, create the enabling environment and put Ghana at a stage to compete with the so called developed countries. China, Malaysia, South Korea et al have done it and we can equally do same. We have the natural and human resources yet we are in quagmire of unemployment, poverty and bereft of ideas.
I implore H.E. John Dramani Mahama and Hon. Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo to prepare the minds of their sympathizers and supporters to accept any outcome of the upcoming elections. My humble plea to the two major political parties (NDC & NPP) is to put Ghana first in their quest to maintain power or wrestle power. We the citizens of Ghana are for peace and will on any day say no to violence.
The electorates should endeavour on December 7th elect a leader who harbours the development of the nation. Let's disallow our mainstream media houses to deceptively mislead us in opting for a wrong leader. Choose a leader who is heart-driven, one who associates with the common Ghanaian on the street of Agbobloshie, Asokwa, Salaga, Nandom Kintampo, Bawku etc., one who understands the need of the country on every level. Elect a leader with integrity, one who can keep his words and not lie to the masses.
Ghana is being tauted as the gate way to Africa and beacon of Democracy. This is as a result of our success story in transferring power from one democratic elected government to the other. We must not be swollen headed by this praises, peace has no substitute or prerequisites. The citizenry is far from ready to experiencing what ensued at Burundi, ivory cost, mali etc. we cannot look unconcerned for the Egypt's riot to replicate itself in our beloved country. *"Yɛn ara yɛn asaase ni"*, we have no other. It is one Ghana that we have and we must jealously protect the image of it before, during and after the elections.
As the campaigns are heated up it is my fervent prayer that Almighty God will continue to protect all of us, grant us his mercies, and incidence free in this year's election . May the Almighty God elect the best leader for us. Remember, when all is said and done, Ghana shall still be Ghana.
