I was still in shock hearing the “man of God”
asking his congregation to come for his specially brewed “holy water”. The rush
to the well in the church auditorium made me sad and angry at the same time…I
just sat fixated on my TV screen as women, men and children with gallons and
bottles scrambled for the water which the preacher claimed could cure every
ailment under the sun. I just could not…..well let me borrow Lil Win's words “I
can't tink far.”
This and many other shenanigans are seen on TV these days
and on radio and in the several mushroom churches that have sprung up in many
communities.
I am a believer and not against the establishment of
churches, but I am worried about the current situation we find ourselves where
so called men of God conduct themselves in a way that brings God's name into
disrepute.
I am also worried about the “stupefied gullibility” of
modern day Christians who swallow everything that emanates from a pulpit or
from anyone who claims he's been sent by God!
I wonder if they know what the bible says in 1John 4:1
thus, ” Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are
of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.''
I mean how on earth can a whole human being chew a
calendar with the face of a preacher hoping that the paper is potent enough to
bring healing to his system?
I am still searching for the verse in my bible that says
people must chew pastors' calendars and brochures to receive healing. That even
brings to mind the South African Pastor, Penuel Mnguni of End Times Disciples
Ministries in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria who asked his congregation to chew
grass and snakes for healing.
During my days at good old choice fm, one preacher used
to preach at dawn and when he opened the phone lines and no call came through,
his boys would go to the back of the station, call into the program pretending
to have been saved by his 'powers' all in a bid to get people throng his church
the following day; and I must say that trick worked because the kinds of cars
and buses he runs now is mind blowing! I am reminded of the scripture Matthew
24:11 that says “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” I
see this happening all around us.
How on earth do you expect to be rich when you spend your
time 24/7 in church hoping that manna Will drop from heaven…we are no longer in
the days of Exodus 16:5 . What baffles me is the fact that women make up the
majority of most of the mushroom churches that we find in the country. I have
seen women who spend a significant number of their days in church praying and
fasting for miracles at the expense of their marriages, jobs and even children.
Don't get me wrong. I am not against praying and fasting; it is a requirement
in our walk with God.
But you don't expect to get things dropped from heaven
for you by just praying with your hands in between your thighs!
These scriptures aptly speak on laziness.
Proverbs 10:4 says, 'Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.''
Proverbs 10:4 says, 'Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.''
Proverbs 10:26
Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy one to those who send him.
Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy one to those who send him.
Proverbs 22:13
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside; I will be killed in the streets!”
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside; I will be killed in the streets!”
So take for instance a woman who is expecting the fruit
of the womb who spends her whole day in church, serving the Man of God,
cleaning among other duties yet this same person refuses to do what is expected
of her as a wife at home. To top it all she denies her husband sex! So how on
earth do you expect to get pregnant? Some things are simply common sense! I get
pissed off by people who revere their pastors so much so that they can even
fall on a grenade for them; 'for they loved praise from men more than praise
from God' (John 12: 43).
The recent incident that caused a massive social media
outrage was the video of a pastor beating two teenagers on live TV for
allegedly fornicating and attempting to abort a pregnancy in the process! Well,
I can only but relay Jesus' words in Matthew 7: 1-5 “Do not judge, or you too
will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and
with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your
brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you
say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time
there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of
your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your
brother's eye.
There has been so much vilification of the church in
recent times and it's because of some little foxes that are just running to and
fro, messing around and knocking heads together. However, I still believe that
we all have a role to play in making the church the institution it ought to be.
Romans 12: 5-8 For as we have many members in one body,
and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body in
Christ, and every one member one of another. Having then gifts differing
according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy
according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our
ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on
exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth,
with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Let he who has ears, listen to what the spirit is saying
to the church!
